BAU 2007 for renovation and modernisation

Renovation and modernisation is a focal theme at BAU 2007, which takes place from 15 to 20 January at the New Munich Trade Fair Centre. Here, a special display is being put on by the Bundesarbeitskreis Altbauerneuerung e.V. (BAKA), a working group specialising in the subject. Other focal themes at the fair include intelligent façades, energy-efficient buildings and building management systems. The centrepiece of the BAKA presentation will be a 'Forum on R&M Experience', featuring 65 lectures and panel discussions on all the main themes involved in renovating and modernising existing buildings. The subjects covered here include buildings analyses, designing for the handicapped, identifying and eradicating faults, energy-efficient building, sustainable quality, regulations and legislation as regards modernisation, and finance and government grants.

The whole section on renovation and modernisation at this leading trade fair for the German and European building industry will appeal to planners, architects and building professionals as well as clients and investors. Four themes in particular are being prepared, specially for the real estate and housing sector, for architects and planners. These are: 'Houses for older people – the generation change'; 'How to avoid mould – microbial events'; 'Lifecycle challenges for the real-estate and housing industry'; and 'The future of architects – opportunities and risks – new cooperation models?'

On Wednesday, 17 January 2007 the focus will be on the real-estate and housing industry. What are the challenges of the future? Top representatives from the industry will be coming together here around midday in a stimulating discussion on the future of the real-estate sector.

Messe München GmbH has launched a special award for innovative product concepts which are particularly well suited for use in renovating or modernising old buildings. The award is sponsored jointly with the Bundesarbeitskreis Altbauerneuerung and Springer BauMedien. 100 entries have been received for the Product Innovation Awards 2007, of which 14 have been nominated by the jury. The award ceremony will take place on 15 January.

The German Federal Ministry of Transport, Building and Urban Affairs will be holding a two-day congress on energy-efficient building on 15 and 16 January 2007, in cooperation with BAKA and dena (Deutsche Energie-Agentur – German energy agency). On the programme are themes such as European regulations (implementing EU guidelines), low-energy housing and non-residential construction, new energy standards in Germany and Europe, producing energy audits, plus products and technology for future energy-efficient buildings.
