Poyry awarded contracts in Peru and Chile

Finnish Poyry's Energy business group has been awarded design services contracts for hydropower projects in Peru and Chile. The value of the services to be provided totals EUR 1.5 million.

The contract with Electricidad Andina, a Peruvian private development company for the Santa Rita hydropower project in Peru, includes basic and tender design services. Situated 400 km north of the Peruvian capital Lima, the Santa Rita project is a run-of-river hydropower plant with a daily regulation reservoir, underground waterways of 16 km length and an underground powerhouse with an installed capacity of some 220 MW. The project is financed jointly by Andina and Trading Emissions PLC of England.

Pacific Hydro Chile, a subsidiary of the Australian-based Pacific Hydro company, has awarded the business group a contract for basic and definition engineering services for the Coya hydropower project in Chile. Coya is an existing hydroelectric plant, 200 km south of the Chilean capital Santiago. The project is designed to increase the plant's capacity from 39 MW to 103 MW. The contract is the continuation of a feasibility study carried out by Poyry in 2005-2006.

Both assignments strengthen Poyry's position in hydroelectric projects in Latin America, where it has established an outstanding track record over the past decades.
