| Corus contributes to the model design Corus have collaborated with the Steel Construction Institute (SCI) to develop a new website aimed at addressing any questions or issues linked to the new Approved Document Part L 2 building regulations. The website is the first of its kind for the industry. The latest revision to Building Regulations Part L includes a reference to an initiative of the Construction Products Association, www.modeldesignsinsteel.com This initiative gives designers a starting-point when designing buildings to the new regulations. The European Directive on The Energy Performance of Buildings requires that compliance be based on a whole building calculation of overall Carbon Dioxide emissions. Independent calculations of the different building elements at the design stage will no longer be acceptable. Corus wanted to help guide architects in this by pulling together information from specialists including building physicists and building services experts, together with technical support from key industries for accurate compliance for all of the different buildings elements. The new 'Model Design' service will enable specifiers to gain a better idea of what to take into consideration at the design stage of their projects. The site provides the information based on a number of different building types which use long span steel frames as the main structure and are clad using profiled, pre-finished steel cladding systems. Each model has undergone a full quality check by the SCI to ensure compliance. write your comments about the article :: © 2006 Construction News :: home page |
