OPDE develops new PV projects

The OPDE Group will develop 8.8 Megawatts of photovoltaic projects in the western Spanish community of Extremadura. Two of the plants are located in the Badajoz province at Valencia de Mombuey and La Portuguesa. The other system will be located in Fuente de Cantos. The Valencia de Mombuey photovoltaic system will be the first to start up by OPDE Extremadura and is expected to begin operations in December 2006. It will produce 0.7MW of power. The photovoltaic system at Finca La Portuguesa will be developed in three phases and will be completed in April of 2007 with a total power of 3.4 Megawatts.

The start up of the Fuente de Cantos solar system is projected for November of 2007.This system will have 536 solar trackers and will provide 4.7 Megawatts of power. The around 1,000 two axis tracking systems for all three projects will be provided by Megasolar.

The total annual production from all three facilities will equate to a volume of 18,723 Gwh of energy, which is similar to the yearly consumption of 5,889 homes, eliminating the emission of 18,084 tonnes of CO2 to the atmosphere and with a cleansing effect similar to the photosynthesis of 902,096 trees.
