Bouygues Construction won first social housing contracts in the UK

Bouygues UK, Bouygues Construction's UK subsidiary, has recently been named the preferred bidder for the design and construction of two social housing complexes in London for more than 120 million euros.

These are the first social housing contracts for Bouygues UK, which had previously worked under Private Finance Initiative (PFI) projects in the following sectors: education (King's College and Barking, Peterborough and Lewisham schools), health (West Middlesex, Barnet and Central Middlesex hospitals) and public buildings (the Home Office). These two new projects are part of an extensive programme for the construction of social housing in the UK in the next ten years, adapting and modernising housing for lower-income groups.

The first PFI contract, awarded by Brent Council to the Brent Coefficient consortium (comprises Bouygues UK, Hyde Housing Association and the Bank of Scotland), includes the design, construction and operation-maintenance of the buildings for 30 years. Bouygues UK will be in charge of the design and construction of this complex for more than 100 million euros. It will comprise 300 new affordable homes, 150 homes for lettings to homeless households, 15 supported living units specially adapted for people with motor disabilities, and 35 others designed for people with learning disabilities.

The second contract, worth 20 million euros, was awarded by Barking & Dagenham Council to Bouygues UK as part of a tender for a property development scheme. It includes the design and construction of a complex with 86 flats (social housing and private housing), a 2,000 sq. metre public library, a one-stop shop and a retail development.
