Omega given green light

Omega Warrington Ltd, the joint venture formed by Miller Developments and the Royal Bank of Scotland, together with national regeneration agency English Partnerships, has received a positive planning resolution from Warrington Borough Council for the first two phases of the £1bn Omega development in the North West. Omega Warrington Ltd submitted an outline planning application for the first two phases, totaling 290,850 sq m (3.1 million sq ft), of the brownfield scheme which is situated on the former Burtonwood Airbase, in October 2003. The first two phases comprise industrial and distribution space to the north of the site and office accommodation to the south. The south site will also accommodate complimentary ancillary uses and a hotel.

Omega will be developed in phases over 25 years and will provide a regional strategic site for the North West. The scheme will ultimately provide a total of over 664,122 sq m (7.1 million sq ft) of offices, production, technology and distribution space along with some ancillary uses such as leisure/retail facilities, hotel and conference facilities.

With outline planning permission in place, the development team will commence work on detailed infrastructure design for phases 1 and 2, with a start on site scheduled for spring 2007.
