Washington Group trains Idaho teachers in construction safety

Washington Group International safety experts, as part of the company's safety alliance with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, joined other industry and government safety professionals to provide first-of-its-kind training for Idaho high school and university vocational education teachers.

In two-day sessions, Oct. 5-6, in Boise, Lewiston, and Pocatello, teachers were provided industrial and construction safety training customized for use in a school shop setting.

Adapted by Washington Group International from OSHA courses taught to industry professionals, instruction included fall and respiratory protection, the use of hand and power tools, material handling and electrical and flammable hazards. Instruction was provided by staff from Washington Group International, OSHA, the Idaho Division of Building Safety, the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation, Boise State and Idaho State Universities, and the insurance industry.

Upon completion of the training, the teachers received an OSHA certification in construction safety.

Since 2002, Washington Group International and OSHA have maintained a safety alliance, designed to create opportunities for continued achievement in advancing workplace safety and health. The company has achieved a safety performance more than 20 times better than the industry for days away from work and has been named one of America's safest companies by Occupational Hazards magazine.
