Safeguarding system for hydraulic press brakes

Honeywell Wintriss introduced the LazerSafe LZS-003-HS Safeguarding System. Developed for hydraulic press brakes, LazerSafe enables complex bends to be made with a minimum of settings while maintaining high press speeds and increasing operator safety.

LazerSafe uses two flat bands of 40-mm-wide laser light to continuously monitor the zone below the punch. It can detect obstructions as small as 4 mm while still being tolerant to vibration. The width of the laser beams and the location of transmitter and receiver - they are mounted on the ram of the press - enable the operator to work safely within 20 mm of the punch without affecting the approach speed or bending process.

The configuration of LazerSafe's laser beams enables multiple bends in a workpiece to be made without slowing production. Complex bends for boxes can be achieved without loss of speed by muting front and rear sections of the laser bands, allowing the middle section of the laser to monitor the punch for safety. Muting of the laser beams' rear section allows the back gauge to be ignored as an obstruction in jobs that require only a short bend.
LazerSafe simplifies changing of the workpiece by automatically sensing the mute point, which is then easily set by the operator with the push of a button. Stroke length changes are made by simply adjusting the height of the vertical arms on which the LazerSafe transmitter and receiver are mounted.
