GaLaBau announces best result in its 40-year history

The 17. International Trade Fair for Urban Green and Open Spaces, GaLaBau 2006 increased the number of visitors by another approx. eight per cent over the last event two years ago. 53,179 trade visitors were counted at GaLaBau in the Exhibition Centre Nuremberg from 13-16 September 2006. Europe's biggest trade fair for the construction of gardens, landscapes, sports grounds and playgrounds set new records for both visitors and exhibitors: Altogether 904 exhibitors from Germany and abroad were present in the ten exhibition halls and on the outdoor demonstration areas.

GaLaBau 2006 made it clear again: The construction of green and open spaces clearly stands out in a positive way from other branches of the building industry. "Whereas other building exhibitions are having to fight for exhibitors and visitors, GaLaBau impresses with the best result in the 40-year history of this exhibition, " sums up Walter Hufnagel, Member of the Management Board of NürnbergMesse.

Trade visitors from landscape contractors (53 per cent) and landscape architects (6 per cent) plus decision-makers from official agencies and local authorities (13 per cent) sourced information about new products and trends for four days at GaLaBau. Over seven per cent of the 53,000 visitors came from abroad, mainly from the neighbouring countries of Austria, Switzerland, France, the Netherlands, the Czech Republic and Hungary. The mood in the halls was good on all days of the exhibition.

95 per cent of the visitors were extremely satisfied with the products on display at the exhibition, as shown by the results of a survey by an independent market research institute. The product groups that interested the visitors most at the exhibition are still construction machinery and equipment (50 per cent), construction materials (40 per cent), maintenance machinery and equipment (34 per cent) and plants (33 per cent). The urban design and playground equipment segments in hall 1 were also well visited. Every fourth visitor was interested – according to his own information – in the product segment "playgrounds, leisure grounds and sports grounds" and every sixth visitor in urban design products (e.g. banks, tables, street lights).

98 per cent of the exhibitors said they had reached their most important target groups at GaLaBau. A survey shows that over 81 per cent of the visitors are involved in procurement and purchasing decisions in their company.

Every second exhibitor actually received orders during the event. 88 per cent of the exhibitors expect follow-up business. Three out of four exhibitors had already decided by the last day of the exhibition to be there again at the next GaLaBau in two years.

The winners of the "Landscape Gardener Cup 2006" were presented with their prize at the "GaLaBau Exhibition Get-together". The "German Champion Team", Sandra Neuffer and Christoph Maurits from Baden-Württemberg, qualified as winning team for the 2007 World Championships in Shizuoka (Japan).

BGL presented the "GaLaBau Innovation Medal 2006" to altogether 14 important technical innovations (from 90 entries). This award is presented as recognition of successful developments and progressive solutions to problems with products or processes for the construction and maintenance of landscaped areas.

The varied GaLaBau supporting programme organized by BGL, which took place for the first time in the CCN Ost Congress Centre of the exhibition site, attracted an excellent response from the many participants. The programme focused mainly on the conferences, including an event on "How do I become an Irrigation Expert?" and another event with useful information on the popular natural swimming ponds.

GaLaBau 2008 – note the date: The next GaLaBau takes place in Nürnberg from 17-20 September 2008.
