Zumtobel starts new apprenticeships

18 new apprentices started their training with Zumtobel, Austrian lighting group. The apprenticeships, which last four years in all, qualify young people as industrial electricians, electronics specialists, machine mechanics, tools mechanics or plastic technicians.

The Zumtobel Group trains apprentices in a central training workshop in close cooperation with z-werkzeugbau-gmbh under the motto of "generation Z!" The young people spend the first two years of their course in the training workshop and then enter a job rotation scheme including a number of different workplaces with TridonicAtco, International Lighting Technologies (the luminaire supply chain for the Zumtobel and Thorn brands) and z-werkzeugbau (toolmaking). This approach provides them with a comprehensive overview of Zumtobel Group's activities, as well as a chance to develop theoretical and practical skills in a number of different areas.

Following the completion of their apprenticeships, the newly qualified skilled workers are normally offered jobs with Zumtobel Group companies. In 2010, five of today's apprentices will probably join z-werkzeugbau, with eight going to the TridonicAtco Division and five to the Zumtobel Lighting Division. At z-werkzeugbau the number of former Zumtobel apprentices is today very high indeed, accounting for 70% of the workforce.
