| Eric Lyons & Span exhibition at RIBA The first exhibition ever to comprehensively explore the ground-breaking work of Eric Lyons and Span Housing goes on display at the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) from from 9 November – 22 December 2006. Publicly recognised by many awards and also within his profession by his election as President of the RIBA 1975 – 1977, Lyons's professional life of nearly fifty years will be exhibited. Span Developments Limited was formed in the 1950s when there was an urgent need for new housing in Britain. With Eric Lyons as Span’s principal architect and Geoffrey Townsend acting as the company’s developer, Span built extremely well designed communities of flats and terraced housing aimed at the professional class. In the 1950s Span’s key projects began in Blackheath and Surrey. Most significantly, during the 1960s, New Ash Green in Kent developed as a whole Span village. Span communities today, more than 25 years after Eric Lyons’s death, continue to flourish as highly successful communities of private housing. write your comments about the article :: © 2006 Construction News :: home page |
