Drawing water for a good cause

Drawing water, an exhibition organised by Arup, has attracted the talents of hundreds of international architects and designers. It opens at the Bargehouse on London's south bank from 28 September – 1 October.

Illustrated postcards from the leading names in architecture and design including David Adjaye, Ken Shuttleworth, and Toyo Ito will encapsulate artistically what water means to each of them. The postcards will be available for sale throughout the exhibition, priced at £35 each, raising funds for WaterAid. The artists' identities will remain unknown until the card is purchased.

The exhibition is helping Arup to celebrate its 60th anniversary. As part of the celebrations Arup has created an initiative, the Arup Cause, a partnership with WaterAid. Working together, Arup and WaterAid strive to make a difference to people around the world who do not have the luxury of unrestricted access to safe, clean water and sanitation. The proceeds from the sale of the postcards from the drawing water exhibition will all go towards this cause.

A competition - 'the drawing water challenge' - will also be launched at the Bargehouse. Engineers and architects will be asked to design an item or system that will change the way clean, safe water is made available for generations to come.
