Bouygues wins contract for the Flamanville 3 nuclear power plant

Bouygues Construction has been awarded the main package for the construction of the buildings that will house the future new-generation Flamanville nuclear reactor by EDF, the French electricity utility.

The contract is worth over 300 million euros (Bouygues Construction share) and includes the entire civil engineering works for the nuclear power plant. It will be built by a consortium including Bouygues Travaux Publics (lead firm), Quille (a subsidiary of Bouygues Construction based in Rouen) and Baudin-Chвteauneuf (steel-work contractor).

The Flamanville 3 nuclear power plant will house a European Pressurised Reactor (EPR) with a capacity of about 1,600 megawatts. It will comprise some ten industrial buildings, including the turbine building and the reactor building, which will be built in pre-stressed concrete with a steel liner to ensure tightness. Construction is due to begin in 2007 and will last four-and-a-half years.
