| Southern Gateway Consortium to build Perth-Bunbury Highway The Southern Gateway Consortium, which included Leighton Contractors, WA Limestone and GHD Consulting, had been selected as the preferred participant for the new Perth-Bunbury Highway alliance contract. The new Perth-Bunbury Highway project to link for Western Australia's fastest growing communities in Peel and the South-West. It would be about eight kilometres shorter than the existing route through Mandurah and was expected to cut up to 34 minutes off the journey between Safety Bay Road and Lake Clifton. The new Perth-Bunbury Highway involves 70.5km of dual carriageway road from the Kwinana Freeway extension to Lake Clifton.
