C.F. Møller and Arup design new landmark for Malmö skyline

Danish architectural firm C. F. Møller Architects, with Arup as design engineers, is adding a second skyscraper to Malmö's skyline, complementing Calatrava's Turning Torso with a new 180 metre Nordic landmark.

Having won the competition to design the new Hyllie development in Malmö, C. F Møller Architects and Arup's scheme reveals plans to create a new train station building and station square. In addition, a 180 metre tower will serve as the main landmark for the new development promising to make Hyllie a beacon for the urban future in Malmö.

The Hyllie project is a collaboration between the property developers Annehem Holding AB and the Malmö City Council. The winning proposal will be the basis for continued planning work on the Hyllie station complex and square.

C. F. Møller's winning proposal was chosen from a selection of submissions by Norwegian practice Snöhetta A/S, the Swedish White Arkitekter AB and Austrian Coop Himmelblau.

The final details of the proposal, to be decided during the autumn of 2006, will entail a degree of reworking by C. F. Møller. Construction is expected to start in the summer of 2008 with occupation following in the winter of 2010-2011. Trains will begin using the new station in 2011.
