Haskell wins ABC Excellence Award

Haskell, America's leading integrated design-build firm practicing in the general building and civil infrastructure markets, was presented with an Associated Builders and Contractors First Coast Chapter Excellence in Construction Award for the entire Littoral Warfare Research Facility (LWRF).

The LWRF is a unique research complex designed to demonstrate and test emerging technologies and new system concepts for multiple, cooperating, unmanned systems conducting complex missions in the littorals (near coastal environments). Through the application of research and development (R&D) conducted in the LWRF, exposure of Navy personnel and platforms to diverse threats will be greatly reduced.

The project is a 39,755 SF design-build 3-story tilt-up/ brick veneer building with 2 elevators. Components include a 3,290 SF high bay with bridge crane, chiller and boiler, interior and exterior water test tanks/pools, security systems, communication and data connection to other base facilities and multiple offices and multiuse laboratories. The building is on the waterfront and a dock, boat hoist and a boat ramp were also provided. Relocation of oily water waste facility and demolition of 12 existing buildings were included in the program as well.

This project was impacted by 4 named tropical storms, with direct hits from Hurricanes Dennis and Ivan.
