Precision tools show continuing economic upturn

AMB-International Exhibition for Metalworking is the only quality exhibition in Germany that is tailored specifically to meet the needs of manufacturers of various Precision Engineering and supporting industries. It will be held in Stuttgart from 19 to 23 September 2006.

Although the German market for precision tools was weak in 2005, towards the end of the year there was a marked improvement, and the sector showed a very positive development in the first quarter of 2006. So that Switzerland, Austria and Hungary delivered more products to Germany than in the corresponding period last year. The Italian, French and Czech manufacturers, however, had to record a decrease in turnover in Germany. The foreign business last year was again so good that the German manufacturers were export world champions, beating Japan into second place.

Despite the altogether positive prospects, the joy among the precision tool manufacturers is not wholly untarnished. The costs of raw materials, still at a record level, continue to negatively affect the results of precision tool manufacturers, as was recently shown in a study by the IKB Deutsche Industriebank AG.

At this year's AMB, there will be many important trends and ground-breaking innovations on show. So, beside novel coatings for metal-cutting tools, innovative tool concepts will be exhibited which are oriented precisely toward customer benefit and avoid all over-engineering. There will be an opportunity to discover modular and "smart" metal-cutting tools with sensors and additional drives, as well as newly developed measuring units at the AMB that have been reduced to the size of mobile phones and can be conveniently used in the production process.
