Trends in the European Timber and Forestry

More than 400 exhibitors are expected for the upcoming "International Timber Fair Klagenfurt" that will be held from 31st August to 3rd September 2006. The five main areas covered at this internationally renowned centre of competence will be forestry, sawing, timber construction, transportation and biomass.

With its 19,000 visitors, the International Timber Fair Klagenfurt counts among the largest trade fairs for forestry, sawing, timber construction, transportation and bioenergy in Central Europe. Every two years, approx. 400 exhibitors from 16 nations present the latest trends and developments in their industry.

"Timber construction and timber products" are an important topic at the "International Timber Fair". The offer ranges from timber construction systems, timber materials, dry construction and HVACR to offers for specialised training, timber architecture and timber associations. One of these associations is the Union of Austrian Master Carpenters who is going to use its stand at the fair to inform its members about new trends in the industry. These activities are supported by ProHolz Süd and the Timber Cluster.

Many companies are going to present the state of the art in beams, fixing and packaging as well as in the area of hand-held machinery. A special exhibition of Graz Technical University and the University of Applied Science from Spittal/Drau will be dedicated to gluelam construction.

In the field of timber logistics, exhibitors will present a wide range of specific offers from truck superstructures to ecologically friendly transportation by train. One focal area will be round and residual timber handling, i.e. hauling cranes with extremely long jibs. The range of stackers for the timber industry will include multi-functional wheel-loaders. Local and foreign producers offer a wide range of support services for transportation and logistics, following the slogan "Transportation from the wood to the sawmill and the master builder".

The fair views itself as a pioneer in the field of technical rope systems for forestry and gentle handling of timber soil and forest paths. Great attention will be paid to "Labour Safety and Protection".

Trade visitors can choose between mobile and stationary saws; many producers will show the functions of their equipment on site. All the major suppliers from Central Europe -- from Austria, Germany, France, Italy, Slovenia, Sweden, Finland and even Poland and Slovakia -- will be exhibiting and present the latest trends in their industry. The tendency is towards high-tech mechanical sawmill equipment and standard industrial measurement.
