| Mott MacDonald appointed on Palm Jumeirah monorail project Mott MacDonald has been appointed by Nakheel LLC to provide engineering and site supervision services for a new $400 million monorail on the Palm Jumeirah complex off Dubai, UAE. Palm Jumeirah is a large artificial island complex located off the shore of Dubai approximately 5km˛. The complex encompasses four main islands, one in the shape of a palm tree and three providing a crescent surrounding the palm to protect it from the open sea. To supplement the road infrastructure to the main complexes on the Palm, Nakheel has commissioned the Palm Jumeirah Transit Project. This is a dedicated monorail system capable of handling up to 6,000 passengers per hour in each direction. Mott MacDonald is providing key consultancy services including review and audit of the detailed design of all civil, structural, mechanical and electrical (M&E) works; verification and validation of M&E systems; review of construction management plans and spot inspection of civil, structural and M&E works to verify progress, quality and safety.
