Lafarge reports results for the six months ended June 30, 2006

The world's largest cement maker, France's Lafarge SA, said net profit in the six months to the end of June was 548 million euros on sales of 8.759 billion euros, compared with 359 million euros in the corresponding period last year.

Its operating profit in the first half of 2006 up by 41 percent to 1.17 billion euros, with operating profit in the cement division rose by 34 percent to 871 million euros.

In the granulates and concrete sector, its operating profit rose by 74 percent to 188 million euros, in roofing by 54 percent to 37 million euros and in plaster and plasterboard by 39 percent to 110 million euros.

Bruno Lafont, Chief Executive of Lafarge, stated that “the group has demonstrated its ability to take advantage of its positions and of favorable trends in its markets, to increase prices and control costs. These results allow to confirm the confidence for 2006. The group is fully committed to the implementation of its Excellence 2008 strategic plan.”
