glasstec 2006 displays today what is feasible tomorrow

The new applications of glass will make possible in future can already be seen at glasstec 2006 from 24 to 28 October in Düsseldorf.

The on-going further development of functional glass types, coatings and machining techniques - as well as of fittings and sealing technology - can bring about ever new structural and optical solutions.

By way of example, innovative products such as light-directing, self-cleaning and switchable glass should be mentioned here because their add-on functions enhance the performance portfolio of functional glazings and make their appearance ever more variable.

According to many glass experts this also holds true for using glue to join glass and frame to form a structural unit. Glued joints permit planners to substantially reduce frame widths thereby realising even "slimmer" window and façade structures despite larger glazed surfaces.

However, these and many other trends in the glass sector would not be possible without corresponding developments in machine technology. In this connection, the feasibility of finishing larger sheet formats as functional glass is just as important a milestone as the production of bent insulating glass and the use of high-precision laser technology in glass finishing.

Alongside numerous new products innovative glass applications will again be centre-stage at the exhibitors' stands and the accompanying Special Show "glass technology live". Technology must rise to new challenges especially when multi-functional insulating glass and photovoltaic or solar thermal systems are to be integrated into building shells.
