Interbeton – Six Construct – Van Oord win contract in Oman

A consortium of Interbeton – Six Construct – Van Oord has been awarded the OMR 94.9 million (EUR 195 million) contract for the construction of quay walls and dredging (phase 3) at Sohar Port, Oman.

Client is the Ministry of Transport and Communications of the Government of Oman. The consortium consists of Interbeton, the international operating company of Royal BAM Group nv from the Netherlands (27.5% share), Six Construct, the international division of the Belgian Group BESIX (27.5%) and Van Oord Dredging and Marine Contractors from the Netherlands (45%).

Dredging and reclamation activities will deepen the port to -18 m, to allow for the largest container, cargo and liquid carriers to call at the Port of Sohar. The huge volumes of dredging will be utilised to reclaim land for the future Container Terminal, planned along the inside face of the northern breakwater.

Overall completion is slated for October 2008. Consultants on the project are Ibn Khaldun, in association with Halcrow. Management of the Sohar Industrial Port is done by S.I.P.C. (Sohar Industrial Port Company) in a 50/50 joint venture of the Government of Oman and the Port of Rotterdam.
