Metabo offers new cordless drill with lithium-ion battery

Metabo Corporation offers its BSZ 18 Cordless Drill/Driver with lithium-ion battery powered technology. The BSZ 18 Cordless Drill/Driver is ideal for a wide variety of construction and industrial work including drilling, tapping, and driving screws. With the new lithium-ion battery, Metabo's BSZ 18 is lighter and can run longer than with traditional batteries because the lithium-ion batteries feature 40% higher performance and 40% less weight than traditional rechargeable batteries. The 18-volt tool weighs only 4.85 lbs. with the battery and provides up to 549 inch-lbs. of torque.

In addition, Metabo's BSZ 18 with lithium-ion batteries offers a longer overall 'in service' life because it utilizes Metabo's patented air-cooled battery charging system. The system cools both the battery and the charger, keeping the battery at the optimum charging temperature, which results in 30% faster charging and an increased service life of up to 1,500 charges. The batteries can also be stored for up to 18 months without losing any charge and are environmentally friendly.

The BSZ 18 drill/driver offers 20 torque settings and a drill setting, with forward and reverse modes. It can drill up to ½" holes in mild steel and up to 1-3/16" holes in soft wood, and the onboard Variospeed electronics allow infinite no-load speeds up to 1,450 rpm.

The drill/driver also features Metabo's spindle lock for one-handed bit changing using a ½" keyless chuck, as well as an ergonomic, rubber-coated T-handle with a built-in clip that holds a screw driving bit. The BSZ 18 uses a smooth gear change mechanism with 3-level planetary gears to extend tool life and has a built in fan to help keep the motor cool under load.
