Siemens to construct airport terminal for the 15th Asian Games

The Doha Asian Games Organising Committee (DAGOC) has awarded the contract to build a temporary airport terminal for the 15th Asian Games 2006 to Siemens.

The order volume is around 19 million euros. The temporary terminal, will be built using a solution known as CapacityPlus, at the Doha International Airport, and will provide all the functions of a regular terminal including both the arrival and departure areas, the baggage handling system, complete electronic security systems for passengers and luggage and the check-in counters. The CapacityPlus system has been previously used with great success at Lisbon Airport in Portugal during the 2004 European Football Championships.

The terminal, designed and built by the Airport Logistics Division of Siemens Industrial Solutions and Services (I&S), will be situated in a secure, temporary structure designed to reflect an Arabian tent scheme, measuring 100 metres by 80 metres. The terminal is expected to handle an estimated 3, 000 passengers per hour.

The 15th Asian Games Doha 2006 is poised to be the world's second biggest multi-sporting event after the Summer Olympic Games. This will be the first Asian Games to be held in the Arab World. The Games will be held in Doha, the capital of Qatar, from 1 to 15 December 2006.
