Norplex-Micarta counter plate materials

Norplex-Micarta announces MC704 thermoset composite, a new counter plate material used in precision creasing of paper sheets and cardboard. This new material provides strength and durability, thereby minimizing production downtime. The material also maintains precise thickness tolerances, ensuring a precise creasing process and improved product quality. The durability of Norplex-Micarta counter plates is particularly important in withstanding repetitive wear over long periods of time. The counter plates remain flat and dimensionally stable when subjected to heat and vacuum conditions. This durability minimizes downtime caused by frequent changeover.

It is also critical that the thickness of the counter plate board material be tightly controlled to ensure consistent crease depths across the entire pattern. If there is even a slight variation in material thickness, the depth of the pattern machined into the board will vary as well. This affects the consistency of creases pressed into the paper sheets or cardboard, thereby preventing them from folding perfectly into cartons.

Counter plates are manufactured from a combination of substrates and resins. The core material provides a smooth, mar-free crease when pressed against the carton material, and the surface material provides increased board strength and durability. A flexible version, the MC704MF, is also available. This material has a surface film that prevents cracking or breaking when the counter plate is removed from the manufacturing machinery, thus reducing downtime when the material is replaced during production.
