Pöyry Awarded Hydropower Contract in Laos

Finnish Pöyry's Energy business group has been commissioned by SouthEast Asia Energy Limited of Thailand to serve as independent engineer during the implementation of the Nam Ngum II hydropower scheme.

The project site is located upstream of the existing Nam Ngum I hydropower scheme in Laos about 100 km north of the capital Vientiane. The Nam Ngum II scheme will include a 185 m high concrete faced rockfill dam and a 600 MW power station. The project will produce electricity for the Thai power grid and sell all the energy to the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT).

The value of the assignment amounts to EUR 8.9 million. The new hydropower plant will start supplying energy to the Thai grid in July 2010.
