IGU Graduate Thesis Prizes 2006

The Netherlands holds the Presidency of the International Gas Union (IGU) for the 2003-2006 Triennium and will organise the 2006 World Gas Conference, which will be held at the Amsterdam RAI Centre on 6-9 June 2006.

Three strategic guidelines have been formulated by the Dutch Presidency for the direction which the IGU's work is to take in this Triennium: promotion of technology, industry efficiency and customer focus; promotion of gas as the fuel of choice for the transition to a sustainable energy system; promotion of the gas industry's role as a responsible corporate citizen.

To raise awareness of these guidelines among students in the IGU member countries, the Dutch Gas Industry is offering two prizes for graduate theses which address issues that are clearly related to one or more of the areas covered by the guidelines.

The prizes will be awarded in two categories: Technology and Sustainability, and Corporate Social Responsibility. The award in each category will consist of a certificate and a cash prize of €10, 000.

To qualify, a graduate thesis must be the work of an individual who graduates between 1 May 2004 and 1 March 2006 from a university in one of the IGU member countries and must have won first prize in a competition organised by the IGU Chartermember in his or her member country.
