Glasstec 2006 Provides Momentum for Construction Industry

glasstec 2006, the 19th International Glass Trade Fair, will be held from 24 to 28 October 2006 at the Düsseldorf Exhibition Centre. The current state of exhibitor registrations clearly reflects the worldwide boom in the building sector.

In the German window segment (standing at 540 million units in total) refurbishment potential is estimated at approx. 380 million units, i.e. 70 % of all window units in Germany no longer correspond to modern standards.

Some 850 exhibitors from 39 countries have alreadyregistered to participate in glasstec 2006. Over 180 first-time exhibitors are expected to attend. Exhibitor numbers for the trade fair developed particularly well in such forward-looking sectors as solar, photovoltaics, laser and display technologies: renowned companies such as Schott Solar, Solar Tec, Grenzebach or world-market leader Trumpf Laser will be covering exiting trend themes in the glass sector at the so-called competence centres organised by Messe Düsseldorf.

These technologies all look to the themes of the Special Show "glass technology live", which – as in 2004 - will be planned by Prof. Stefan Behling, Senior Partner of the London Architects Foster and Partners, with his university team from Stuttgart.

"Houses of the Future" – this year's motto at "glass technology live" – promises to provide interesting insights into such areas as innovative façades and new integral solar technologies, to name but a few. On show will be current projects handled by renowned architect's offices such as Rem Koolhaas, Ben van Berkel, HdM and Delugan + Meissl.
