GaLaBau takes up current trends for Urban Green and Open Spaces

Over 95 per cent of the space is already occupied four months before GaLaBau, the International Trade Fair for Urban Green and Open Spaces, which takes place in the Exhibition Centre Nuremberg from 13-16 September 2006. At the last GaLaBau two years ago, 890 exhibitors and 49,500 visitors met to exchange information on the latest products and services for design, construction and maintenance. "Perhaps we will even crack the 900 mark for exhibitors this year, " says Walter Hufnagel, Member of the Management Board of NürnbergMesse.

The exhibitors at GaLaBau are mainly manufacturers of machinery and equipment for area maintenance, earth-moving, recycling, tree maintenance and paving work, manufacturers of playground and sports ground equipment, and suppliers of plants and urban design equipment. The visitors come mainly from construction and maintenance contractors, are architects and specifiers or clients from private industry or the public sector.

Around a quarter of the total space at GaLaBau 2006 is occupied by exhibitors of construction machinery and equipment and another quarter by maintenance machinery and equipment. The product segment for construction materials covers about one fifth of the display space and the segments for playgrounds, sports grounds and urban design account for about one sixth of all the products on display.

This year, the demonstrations of maintenance machinery and equipment are presented on the "maintenance demonstration area" at SilberseePark.

The special show "Hands-on Playground Equipment" at GaLaBau is organized for the first time by the "freizeit & spiel" journal in co-operation with TÜV Rhineland and with the support of BSFH. The special show focuses on playground safety, which is legally governed by the Euronorm EN 1176/1177. How playground equipment is tested, the test criteria to be fulfilled and the types of fall protection available – visitors at GaLaBau can see all this live at the special show.

The GaLaBau Innovation Medal will be presented again during this year's exhibition. The medal is awarded for new and progressive products and processes for the construction and maintenance of landscaped facilities and is meanwhile regarded in the industry as a kind of quality seal. The winners of the GaLaBau Innovation Medal 2006 will be announced on 14 September.

Every two years, ELCA (European Landscape Contractors Association) in close co-operation with BGL pays tribute to the combined achievements of developers, landscape architects and landscape gardeners in landscaping projects. The International Award for Ecological Construction & Landscaping will be presented at the official opening ceremony on Wednesday, 13 September to a project that is an outstanding practical example of green design for buildings and outdoor facilities.

The GaLaBau symposium on 14 September tackles the subject of the "The Green City" for the second time, when experts, urban planners and landscape contractors discuss how cities can be made greener.

GaLaBau is backed by two experienced and long-term partners: the Bundesverband Garten-, Landschafts- und Sportplatzbau (BGL) of Bad Honnef as sponsor and NürnbergMesse as organizer.
