Atkins appointed by Dubai Metro

Atkins, the largest engineering consultant in the UK, has been appointed by the Japanese-Turkish Metro JV (JTMJV) as design programme manager and detailed designer for its design and build contract covering phase one of the Dubai transit system.

JTMJV, together with Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, form the Dubai Rapid Link consortium tasked to deliver the operating railway. JTMJV has engaged Atkins as lead consultant for all works comprising the phase one Red Line, including 26 stations (four underground), 53 km of viaducts and tunnelling and all associated infrastructure and building works.

A large dedicated design team for the project has been mobilised in Dubai and this will be supported by Atkins' offices in the Middle East, Hong Kong and the UK.
