Black & Veatch Selected for Strategic Air Quality Project

Black & Veatch's Air Quality Control business line has been awarded an assignment from Gulf Power Company, a subsidiary of Southern Company, to provide conceptual engineering for installing CT-121 wet flue gas desulfurization technology ("scrubber") at the Plant Crist Station in Pensacola, Fla.

Black & Veatch will develop the conceptual design after performing system and constructability studies to optimize the overall approach, and create the project cost estimate, construction plan, outage plan and schedule for a combined scrubber for the 320-megawatt (MW) Unit 6 and the 500-MW Unit 7 at the power station. The scrubber will be sized to add the 75-MW Unit 4 and 75-MW Unit 5 in the future, if desired by Gulf Power.

Phase 1 of the project began in January and initial operation of the scrubber is planned for the fall of 2009.
