ITS Orange Book on Smart Highways Generates Industry Interest

Since ITS Orange Book – Smart Highways release at the International Bridge, Tunnel and Turnpike Association (IBTTA) annual meeting in September 2005, more than 9, 000 copies of the book have been distributed via print, CD, and downloads from PBS&J's website.

The second in PBS&J's Orange Book series, ITS Orange Book – Smart Highways, stems from such a gathering and provides key insights into the implementation, business, and performance issues that must be addressed to have a truly "smart" highway – one blending services and infrastructure with customer-centric service.

Forty industry experts, many of them recognized leaders, contributed to the book. They included professionals from the automotive industry (General Motors, DaimlerChrysler), telematics (OnStar), academia, engineering consulting firms, internationally recognized highway research institutes, toll agencies, and U.S. state departments of transportation.

The first release in the series, ITS Orange Book – Predictive Travel Times published in August 2004, focuses on the topic of predicting roadway travel times.
