Black & Veatch to construct Plum Point Plant

Black & Veatch, a leading global engineering, consulting and construction company, has entered into an agreement with the owners of the Plum Point Energy Station, a 665-megawatt pulverized coal plant in northeast Arkansas, for the engineering, procurement and construction of the project.

Plum Point Power Partners is a joint venture among Black & Veatch, Zachry Construction Corporation, and Gilbert Central Corporation, an affiliate of Kiewit Construction Company. The Plum Point Energy Station is being developed by a member of the LS Power Group.

The Plum Point project, which includes engineering, procurement and construction-related activities, started this spring. The commercial operation of the project is scheduled to begin in the summer of 2010. The plant is being designed and constructed utilizing proven, pulverized coal boiler technology along with advanced emission controls, making it one of the cleanest coal-fired plants in the United States.

In addition to the Plum Point Energy Station, members of the LS Power Group have multiple coal-fired projects in advanced development in Texas, Georgia and Nevada. The LS Power Group was founded in 1990 and is a fully integrated power sector-focused development, investment and asset management group of companies with offices in New York, New Jersey, Missouri, California, Massachusetts and Florida.
