White Systems adds features to vertical lift module

White Systems announces new control and hardware capabilities for its popular Power Column 2 vertical lift module, VLM. The Power Column 2 VLM makes use of unused overhead vertical space to deliver a high-density, small-footprint storage and retrieval solution ideal for small items or parts.

New hardware capabilities of the Power Column 2 include an increase in vertical travel speed from 29 inches per second to 55 inches per second, allowing quicker item retrieval. Other hardware changes include specialty trays available in widths up to 157 inches and weight capacities up to 1100 lbs.

An integrated parts lookup table is among the features added to the Power Column 2's controls. The lookup table enables the operator to search for a part number and then have the Power Column 2 automatically retrieve the tray where the part is stored, eliminating the need for the operator to know the tray number to retrieve the part.

Other control modifications to the Power Column 2 include new screen designs on the unit's touch-screen keypad for increased user-friendliness and enhanced functionality. Additional software control choices are also available. The Power Column 2 can now be operated by the White Systems SpectrumPlus warehouse control system software, adding an alternative to the Shark software system. Both software packages keep track of picking and putting transactions in and out of the trays.

More accurate and reliable than conventional VLMs that use chain drives, the Power Column 2's rack-and-pinion drive allows pinpoint retrieval of item trays without adjustment. Available in heights from 10 feet to 50 feet, the Power Column 2 features design options such as a tilt-tray that tilts up to 45 degrees, a lift system that adjusts the height of the pick tray, and a powered door that is lockable for added security.
