New Aircraft Facility Dedicated at Tampa International Airport

The advanced design of the new $7.5-million Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting Facility (ARFF) at Tampa International Airport is getting attention as the facility is officially dedicated by the Aviation Authority.

PBS&J, one of the leading airport design and construction firms, was responsible for the ARFF’s architectural design and oversaw its construction while ensuring compliance with all environmental regulations. PBS&J also advised on transportation security and communications.

The new ARFF incorporates a top-tier security system that allows limited public access while keeping unauthorized personnel from entering the AOA (aircraft operations area). An advanced communications system links the ARFF to the air traffic control tower at Tampa International Airport and the City of Tampa 911 emergency system.

Tampa International Airport, which served more than 19 million passengers in 2005, is proud of its rating as the best airport in the U.S. by Condé Nast Traveler magazine. The new ARFF was incorporated into the 1999 Master Plan to make the airport more efficient, safe and convenient, and will also meet the requirements for future expansion.
