FPL selects park for solar PV array

Florida Power & Light Company selected Rothenbach Park in Sarasota as the site for its first solar photovoltaic array. The solar array, which will be mounted on ground level and visible from the road, will be built with 1,200 PV solar panels and will be more than 28,000 square feet, about half the size of a football field.

Each panel will be about 31 inches wide and 63 inches long. The new 250-kW solar facility is said to become the largest solar array in Florida and one of the largest in the southeast. It will prevent more than 680,000 pounds of carbon dioxide from entering the air each year, the equivalent of not driving 760,000 miles annually. Construction is scheduled to begin in summer 2006.
