| Balfour Beatty wins contracts in the UK and Australia Balfour Beatty plc, the international engineering, construction and services group, announces that its specialist power engineering arm, Balfour Beatty Power Networks (BBPN), has won contracts to a total value of approximately £400 million in the UK and Australia. The largest contract is for the development of the overhead transmission infrastructure in Queensland for Powerlink Queensland, in joint venture with United Group Infrastructure of Australia. The four-year contract covers works in the southern area of Queensland and will be worth approximately £40 million per annum. In the UK, BBPN has been awarded a four-year extension to its existing contract as External Service Provider to Central Networks, part of E.ON UK, which runs the electricity distribution network in central England. Under this contract, worth approximately £40 million per annum, BBPN will carry out overhead line and cable works up to and including 33 kV. BBPN has also been awarded three major overhead line refurbishment contracts by National Grid to a total value of over £50 million. Two contracts are the refurbishment of 100 km of 400 kV double circuit overhead transmission line in East Anglia, with a third contract covering similar work in the South East.
