GaLaBau to ease social tensions

The 17. GaLaBau International Trade Fair for Urban Green and Open Spaces, which takes place in Nürnberg from 13-16 September, is also geared to making a living and working environment that is worth living in.

The living environment has a decisive influence on the quality of life and well-being of the population. More and more people live in cities, in which the limited space available demands creative design ideas. Hotbeds of social tensions soon develop where little value is attached to multifunctional architecture, living greenery and attractive design of open spaces. This is a challenge that local authorities, architects, landscape architects and landscape gardeners must master jointly in the coming years.

The suppliers are well equipped for this task and offer a comprehensive spectrum of park and property furniture, waste boxes and container furniture or fence and gate systems – of smart design and long-life materials. They use GaLaBau 2006 to approach exactly the right target groups.

The need for local authorities to cut costs also leaves its mark on the supply industry in the open space design segment. Difficult times therefore call for innovative concepts. The Public Private Partnership (PPP) could prove promising here, i.e. long-term, contract-based co-operation between the public sector and private industry. For example, where public funds are scarce, private companies can build and operate an infrastructure project based on an operator model. GaLaBau offers the ideal platform for sounding out the possibilities of PPP projects with visitors from the public authorities, particularly for exhibitors whose products contribute to a high-quality living and working environment.

Instead of waiting passively for the economic upturn, the landscape industry is actively developing concepts for garden, landscape and sports ground construction that will secure an attractive living and working environment in the future, too. These concepts can be implemented through co-operation between planners, local authorities, suppliers and contractors. With almost 900 exhibitors and some 50, 000 trade visitors, GaLaBau in Nürnberg brings the right people together.
