| New Atkins project scheduled for Easter Atkins, the largest multi-disciplinary consultancy in Europe, has signed contracts with Network Rail to undertake a major resignalling and infrastructure upgrade in and around Basingstoke. The three-year contract, which is worth £65 million to Atkins, will incorporate the design, installation and commissioning of a new signal control centre and 185 new signals covering more than 60 miles of line. The new equipment will be commissioned in three stages, the first part of which is scheduled for Easter 2007, the second for Easter 2008 and the final part for August 2008. The project is part of Network Rail's broader programme of resignalling works, which will help to improve the performance, safety and cost efficiency of the railway infrastructure. Atkins is already in the process of carrying out a similar project in Port Talbot, Wales, which involves the replacement of 82 signals over 22 miles of line. write your comments about the article :: © 2006 Construction News :: home page |
