Hawaiian and Multiplex to redevelop Claremont Arcade Centre

Claremont Town Council last night paved the way for the $340 million redevelopment of the Claremont Arcade Shopping Centre in Western Australia to proceed.

The approved development, a joint venture between Hawaiian and Multiplex Group, will see the construction of a 30,000 square metres shopping centre, along with some 1,500 car spaces and 100 residential apartments in two, seven storey buildings.

The development maintains the urban design principles approved in a previous proposal, many of which were the result of extensive consultation with the Council and community over a 14 month period.

These principles include the retention of the village square, seen as an essential element that creates a community hub and new retail centre for the existing Claremont Town Centre, on the St Quentin Avenue connection.

The first stage of the development will commence in late 2006 being completed in 2008. As the project is to be built in two stages, the construction of the first stage will not affect the existing shopping centre allowing it to trade as usual. The second and final stage is anticipated to commence directly after the first stage and be fully completed in 2010.
