Jacobs receives U.K. Government environmental contract

Jacobs Engineering Group Inc. announced that a subsidiary company received a contract from the U.K. Government's Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) to implement a five-year program of environmental monitoring of the Wallasea Wetland in the Crouch Estuary area, Essex.

The project, which is being led by Defra's European Wildlife Division, creates 110 hectares of new wetland habitat on the north bank of Wallasea Island through coastal realignment. This project is part of a wider initiative to mitigate the potential impact of port development in the Lappel Bank and Fagbury Flats areas.

The annual program includes both ecological and physical monitoring of the development of the new habitats and species populations, as well as sediment and hydrodynamic surveys to assess scheme success and to verify the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) findings. Jacobs subconsultant, ABPmer, was involved in scheme development.
