Siemens supplies LED equipment for traffic lights in Budapest

A consortium composed of Siemens Rt. and the Hungarian company Vilati Kft. has received an order to equip Budapest's traffic lights with modern LED technology.

Within the next two years, new LED signal heads and new controllers will be installed. The consortium will also be responsible for maintenance of the traffic lights for an initial period of eight years. By using LED equipment, Hungary's capital is expecting to achieve considerable savings in terms of energy consumption and maintenance. The project is worth around EUR 28 million.

More than 600, 000 road vehicles are registered in the Hungarian metropolis. The traffic in the city area is controlled by lights that still use conventional 220 volt lamps. Compared to LED-based solutions, these signal heads consume considerably more energy and have a shorter life cycle.
