| Incident at Wembley Stadium Multiplex Group reports an incident which occurred at the Wembley National Stadium project in the United Kingdom. At approximately 8.35am GMT, a 30 metre roof rafter moved circa 500 millimetres at one end from its intended permanent position whilst work was being undertaken to remove temporary connections and affix the rafter to its final position. As a precaution, Multiplex initiated standard evacuation procedures and removed the workforce from site. Contrary to various media reports immediately after the event in the United Kingdom, the steel did not fall to the ground, the entire roof did not drop and the permanent design is not in question. The incident has been contained and the workforce will return to all other areas tomorrow, although there may be some disruption to the isolated north-west section. Once permanent works have been completed on the rafter, Multiplex will consider the programme implications of this incident in conjunction with its engineers and subcontractors. write your comments about the article :: © 2006 Construction News :: home page |
