| Alain de Botton to deliver the RIBA Trust Annual Lecture 2006 Alain de Botton, author and television presenter, will deliver the fifth RIBA Trust Annual Lecture, entitled The Question of Beauty in Architecture, on Tuesday 25 April 2006. Alain de Botton's lecture will focus on the question - what is a beautiful building? Tackling the question head on, in a journey through the philosophy and psychology of architecture, he will explain that to describe a building as beautiful suggests more than a mere aesthetic fondness - it implies an attraction to the particular way of life the structure is promoting. De Botton will tackle the ultimate challenge of trying to define what it is that makes certain buildings attractive and others ugly. He will perform careful analyses of buildings like Louis Kahn's Yale Center for British Art in New Haven and Herzog and de Meuron's Stone House in Tavole, as well as discussing entire developments, like the Borneo-Sporenburg and Ijberg areas of Amsterdam. write your comments about the article :: © 2006 Construction News :: home page |
