Jaakko Pöyry Awarded contract in China

Jaakko Pöyry Group has been awarded a contract for the construction supervision of the Zhengzhou-Xi'an high-speed railway in China by Zhengzhou-Xi'an Passenger Dedicated Line Company Ltd.

Jaakko Pöyry Group's share of the contract is EUR 2.6 million. The services are scheduled for completion at the end of 2009.

The work will be performed in cooperation with local consultants including the China Academy of Railway Sciences. This high-speed railway line with operation start-up scheduled for 2010 will be the first one in China. The 450-km long railway line will have a design speed of 350 km/h and it will be implemented using the highest Chinese technical standards.

China State Council has approved an ambitious goal of expanding the country's rail network from 72 000 km to 100 000 km by 2020. The Ministry of Railways estimates costs at USD 240 billion. High-speed railway lines of 12 000 km are under planning for completion by 2020.
