| Two architectural exhibitions in Paris to help Los Angeles tourism industry The exhibitions, Los Angeles 1955-85: The Birth of an Artistic Capital and Morphosis: Continuities of the Incomplete, will be on view at the Centre Pompidou March 8 to July 17, 2006. The exhibitions present 350 works spanning 30 years by 86 Los Angeles artists and 24 architectural projects by Thom Mayne’s architectural studio, Morphosis, that are currently underway or have been completed within the last decade, respectively. The only other time the Centre Pompidou conveyed this level of recognition to an American city was in 1979, whe n it saluted New York for its contributions to 20th century art. The Los Angeles exhibitions in Paris are expected to attract some 1.5 million viewers from around the world. “Art is not only food for the soul, but fuel for our local economy, ” said Mayor Villaraigosa. “With this type of international recognition for our city, we are hopeful that more tourists will come to Los Angeles to experience our artistic and cultural treasures.
