Amec-Alstom consortium plays an increasingly vital role in UK’s energy supply

Amec, the global project management and services company, and consortium partner Alstom have been appointed by Scottish Power to fit flue-gas desulphurisation technology that will reduce airborne emissions from the Longannet coal-fired power station, Kincardine-on-Forth, Scotland.

Longannet Power Station, located at Kincardine-on-Forth some 20 miles west of Edinburgh, is the second largest coal-fired power station in the UK and one of the largest in Europe. This is the third major success for the AMEC-ALSTOM consortium in the last three months. With similar work at Kilroot and Aberthaw power stations, the value of flue-gas projects now underway totals over £300 million. Amec’s share of the estimated £170 million Longannet project is £91 million.

The contract is scheduled for completion in early 2009.
