Ferrovial lands its first construction contract in England

Madrid. The consortium headed by Amey, Ferrovial's UK services subsidiary, has been awarded a contract to build, refurbish, finance, operate and maintain all the schools in Bradford, Yorkshire (north of England). The 30-year contract, under the PFI (Private Finance Initiative) formula, is worth 400 million pounds sterling.

All the refurbishment and new construction work will be conducted by a joint venture between Ferrovial Agromán and Costain, one of the UK's leading construction companies.

Amey will take charge of maintaining and operating the schools once they are built: comprehensive maintenance, cleaning, gardening and security.

The Bradford contract is part of the BSF (Building Schools for the Future) initiative developed by the UK government, the largest school investment programme in the last 50 years. The programme seeks to totally renovate secondary schools in England and Wales within 15 years to adapt to the educational needs of the 21st century.
