| Balticconnector provides new ways of co-operation in Baltic countries The new pipeline project named "Balticconnector" aims at connecting the countries by a new natural gas pipeline between Riga in Latvia to Helsinki in Finland. The contract to carry out the feasibility study for the Balticconnector was won by Ramboll. From a technical point of view the project is challenging: The new gas pipeline will cross the Gulf of Finland and will thus run through the Finnish archipelago. The new gas pipeline will be able to cover more than 25 per cent of Finland's total consumption of natural gas. Until now, Finland's demand for natural gas has been covered entirely by supplies through Russian pipelines on land. The total capital investment amounts to DKK 1.5 billion. Balticconnector will create a new natural gas transmission system stretching from the Incukalns natural gas storage facilities in Latvia via Estonia to Finland. The feasibility study will be completed by end 2007. write your comments about the article :: © 2005 Construction News :: home page |
