| The Olympic Village of Torino is opened Two years from the start of the works, that began in September 2003, the Olympic Village was handed over to the City of Torino and to TOROC. The last ribbon-cutting before the Olympic Games, the delivery of the Olympic Village of Torino closes the cycle of inaugurations. It was built following innovative environment-friendly and energy-saving criteria: 39 buildings for 2, 600 people. Over 90, 000 square metres near the Lingotto: 52, 000 metres for residences, 750 apartments altogether, and 40, 000 metres dedicated to services for the village. Nearby, the Lingotto, joined by a walkway that symbolically unites two sections of the City that have always been divided by the railway lines leading to Torino’s main station. This village completes an authentic vital heart of the Olympic Games and seals Torino’s urban renewal. The complex, which together with the Lingotto, will be the centre of gravity of the Olympic Games of Torino 2006, was planned and built by a team of eleven architects coordinated by Benedetto Camerana. write your comments about the article :: © 2005 Construction News :: home page |
